Baker Softball Splits Home Opening Series Against Concordia

BALDWIN CITY, Kansas – The Baker University softball team split its home opening series against Concordia (Neb.) on Sunday afternoon, as they won game one, 4-3, before falling in game two, 5-3.

Olivia Brees earned her third-straight win for Baker, as she went seven strong innings, while striking out seven Bulldogs.

Concordia jumped out to a 3-0 lead, with two runs in the first and one in the third. Then Baker scored four unanswered runs, with one in the third, one in the fourth and two in the bottom of the sixth.

Savannah Bellem supplied Baker with a home run and Caitlin Hardgrove had a team-high three hits. Lexie Korte also had a multi-hit game with two hits.

In game two, Teagan Louthan got the start and threw 5.1 innings, allowing four earned runs and then was replaced for the final 1.2 innings by Korte.

Michaela Woodward threw a complete game against the 'Cats and allowed just three hits. One each from Hardgrove, Riley Swickard and Jamie Haden.

Baker moves to 3-5 on the year, while the Bulldogs now sit at 6-3 on the season. Baker will next take on the Friends Invitational on March 3-4 in Wichita, Kansas for five games.
