Baker Basketball Knocks Out (RV) Mount Mercy with Late Basket, 75-74

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – The Baker University men's basketball team upset the
(RV) Mount Mercy Mustangs on Saturday afternoon inside the 'Collins Center by a final score of 75-74 for its second-straight Heart win.

With time ticking down on the clock and Baker trailing 74-73, junior guard Nathan Guscott drove into the paint and put up a floater that gave his team the lead with 2.3 seconds remaining.

Mount Mercy put up a three-point shot as time expired which did not fall, giving the Wildcats back-to-back wins.

Baker now moves to 13-11 overall and 10-10 in the Heart, while Mount Mercy falls to 19-9 and 13-7 in conference play.

Baker led Mount Mercy for most of the first half, before falling behind 42-40 at the break. BU then outscored MMU, 35-32, in the second half.

Three 'Cats scored in double figures on the afternoon, led by Tyree Peter who scored 18 points, followed by Javeion Gray with 14, and Guscott with 13 points including the game winner.

Baker's defense played a big factor as well, forcing 11 Mustang turnovers.
The 'Cats shot 43-percent from the field, and were 20-of-22 from the free throw line, good for 90-percent.

The Wildcats outrebounded the Mustangs, 35-32, with Peter grabbing a team-high eight and Guscott came down with six.

Baker will next hit the road to take on Evangel on Wednesday, Feb. 8 at 7:30 p.m. in Springfield, MO.
