WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Number 13 CMU Upsets Number 10 Baker, 80-75

BALDWIN CITY, Kansas – The number 13 ranked Central Methodist University women’s basketball team earned the season sweep over number 10 Baker University on Wednesday night, as they defeated the Wildcats, 80-75, inside the Collins Center.

CMU moved into first-place ahead of the Wildcats with its 12-2 conference mark and 16-2 overall record, while Baker falls to 13-4 overall and 11-2 in conference play.

CMU ended Baker’s 10-game Heart of America Athletic Conference winning streak, as Baker hadn’t lost a Heart game since at CMU on Nov. 16, 69-66, in Fayette, Missouri.

Going into halftime, the Wildcats trailed 37-35 and were led by freshman Jodi Atkins who scored seven points in the first two quarters.

The Eagles then outscored BU, 29-19, in the third, while Baker outscored CMU, 21-14, in the final stanza.

The reigning Heart of America Athletic Conference Player of the Year DaJonee Hale scored 15 points while also recording two assists and two steals. Her teammates Anna Borges and Lexie Moe netted 15 and 16 points each.

Four Cats score in double figures on the night as Kelsey Larson scored 15 points, MacKenzie Cook and Anna Hignight both netted 14, and Sydnie Hanson scored 12.

Central Methodist played tough defense throughout, as they forced 10 first half turnovers on the ‘Cats and would finish the game with 21. They also held the Cats to 34-percent shooting from behind the arc.

Baker dominated the boards outrebounding CMU, 41-24, as Larson, Jessica Zweifel and Courtney Hoag all had six rebounds.

Baker will next take on Clarke University, this Saturday at 12 p.m. inside the Collins Center. Baker defeated the Crusaders, 74-70, back on November 12.
