Baker Ends 2016 with 85-73 win over McPherson

BALDWIN CITY, Kansas – The Baker University men’s basketball team used a hot-shooting first half in which they shot 72.7-percent from three-point range on 8-of-11 shooting to propel the Wildcats to a 41-35 first half lead, then the ‘Cats held on to defeat McPherson College, 85-73, on New Years Eve inside the Collins Center.

The Wildcats were led in scoring by senior guard Tyrome Parker who dropped 18 points and was a perfect 3-of-3 from three-point range.

Sophomore Clae Martin had a strong game as well, finishing with 15 points on 4-of-5 shooting from behind the arc.

Baker ended the night, 52.4-percent from three-point range on 11-of-21 shooting and shot 53.6-percent from the field on 30-of-56.

BU also outrebounded the Bulldogs, 36-29, as Daniel Young led Baker with six boards.

Three different Bulldogs scored in double-figures, as DeAndre Henson led the way with 18, Aaron Bachura finished with 17 and Chris Crook dropped 14.

Javeion Gray came off the bench and led Baker in assists with five. Like Parker, CJ Bolton was also perfect from three-point range, shooting 3-of-3.

The Wildcats will get back into the Heart of America Athletic Conference portion of its schedule on Wednesday, January 4 as they host Evangel at 7:30 p.m. inside the Collins Center.
