WOMEN'S SOCCER: Number 1 Spring Arbor Advances Past Number 13 Baker, 2-0

ORANGE BEACH, Alabama – The number 13 Baker University women’s soccer teams impressive run through the 2016 NAIA National Championship Tournament officially came to an end on Friday afternoon, as they fell to number 1 defending National Champion Spring Arbor (Mich.), 2-0, in the national semifinals.

This marked Baker’s second trip to the NAIA Fab Four, the first coming in 2010. Spring Arbor improves to 22-0-1 on the year and advances to its second-straight NAIA National Championship game, as they won last year’s title.

This marks the second-straight season Baker has ended its year to the Cougars. Last year SAU defeated the Wildcats, 3-0, in the NAIA Second Round in Orange Beach.

Baker ends its terrific season with an overall record of 17-4-3 and is now 10-4-1 all-time at the NAIA National Championship tournament.

SAU held Baker to just one shot on the day and took 18 of its own with 11 on goal. Rachel Hunt finished the day with eight saves and Kady Dieringer attempted the lone shot for the ‘Cats.

The Cougars first goal came in the 8th minute, when Aubrey Schierbeek knocked in the goal off of an assist from Bethany Balcer.

Then in the 75th minute, Balcer scored her 31st goal of the season and 61st goal in the last two seasons, to put the game away for the Cougars.
