WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Number 6 Baker Advances to NAIA Fab Four with win over Number 4 Lewis-Clark

INDEPENDENCE, Mo. – The No. 6 seeded Baker University women’s basketball team continued its magical run through the 2016 NAIA Division I Women’s Basketball National Championship, as they defeated No. 4 Lewis-Clark State College (Idaho) on Saturday, 71-52, and advances to the NAIA Fab Four to take on Heart of America Athletic Conference rival, Benedictine College, on Monday, Mar. 21 at 6 p.m. inside the Silverstein Eye Centers Arena.

With the win, Baker moves to 27-8 overall and ties the school-record for wins in a season, as they went 27-7 in 2013-14. Lewis-Clark State College ends its season, 27-7.

In the contest, Sydney Buchel had a big day with a double-double 15 points and 10 rebounds and Baker outrebounded the Warriors, 40-28.

Kelsey Larson led the team with 17 points, while Jami Hodge again scored in double figures with 15 and Ericka Simpson scored 13.

Baker nailed nine three-point field goals on 9-of-19 and held Lewis-Clark State, who was the No. 1 three-point field goal shooting team in the NAIA, to 18.8-percent from beyond the arc, 3-of-16.

The ‘Cats also had 14 assists on its 23 made field goals. Hodge had nine rebounds, while Macy Wallisch finished with five.

This will mark the third time, BC and Baker have squared off this season. Baker defeated the Ravens, 65-48, back on Jan. 20 at home, then fell to BC, 51-48, in Atchison, Kansas on Feb. 17.

This marks the first NAIA Fab Four appearance in school history for both Baker and Benedictine.
