Number 6 Baker Women Falls to Number 2 MidAmerica Nazarene in NAIA Title Game, 49-35

INDEPENDENCE, Mo. – The Number 6 Baker University women’s basketball team became the first team in Baker athletics history since the 1986 Baker football team to compete in a NAIA national championship game on Tuesday night, as they fell to Number 2 MidAmerica Nazarene, 49-35, in the final game of the 2016 NAIA Division I Women’s Basketball National Championship inside the Silverstein Eye Centers Arena.

The Wildcats end their season with a school-record 28-9 record and end the Pioneers season, 32-5.

At the break, Baker led the Pioneers, 25-21, but then outscored the ‘Cats, 28-10, in the second and 14-2 in the third quarter.

Baker’s Jami Hodge and Ericka Simpson were named to the National Tournament All-Tournament team for their impressive performances throughout the week. Hodge finished with 81 points on the week, the most points by a Baker Wildcat in national championship history.

Kelsey Larson led Baker in scoring with eight points and Macy Wallisch added nine rebounds.

There will be a End of Year Pep Rally for the Women’s Basketball team on Wednesday, Mar. 23 at 4:30 p.m. inside the Collins Center. Come out and cheer on the ‘Cats one more time.
