Baker Baseball Splits Road Series with Missouri Valley

MARSHALL, Mo. – The Baker University baseball team continued its run through the Heart of America Athletic Conference schedule on Saturday, as they split its two-game series with Missouri Valley, losing in game one, 10-5, then defeated the Vikings, 9-6 in game two.

With the split, Baker moves to 8-12 overall and 2-2 in the Heart, while Mo Valley stands at 11-11 and 2-2.

In game one, Caleb Lee started on the hill and went five innings, but allowed six earned runs and 11 hits.

The Wildcats jumped on Mo Valley started Logan Faber with three runs in the second and another in the fourth, but Faber settled down and kept the ‘Cats scoreless in the fourth, fifth and seventh innings and eventually received the win.

Cody Gregory hit a home run for Baker and was one of four ‘Cats to knock in a run, Ethan Jacks led Baker with two RBI’s. Austin Bass added a double and went 1-for-4 in the leadoff spot.

In game two, Jordan David got the start and went five innings, allowing just two earned runs and struck out three.

The bullpen put together a strong four-inning effort, with Laken Staub, Kekai Rivera-Albeso, Bennett White and Wes Boehm preserving the win with one inning apiece.

White and Straub each struck out two batters and Boehm earned the save.

Charlie Coleman and Cort Brennan each finished with three hits, while Neal Boyce, Jacks, Sean Beal and Bass all had two hits. Baker ended game two with 17 team hits.

The Wildcats will next host Central Methodist on Tuesday, Mar. 22 at 1 p.m. at Sauder Field.
